I often feel troubled when I cannot find answers to society's most socially pressing problems because answers existing outside of me have not proved sufficient. The following poem reflects an inward search that provides the answer that gives me comfort.
The Desert Rock

Its odd shaped stared at me
Seemingly bothered by my troubled stance
And my strange isolation
In a place reserved for rocks and losers
I was out of place for sure
Not knowing how I ended up here
But the rock tempted me to talk
Sharing a conversation only reserved for a gOD I had long abandoned
Silly I know, but that rock opened its mouth
And asked, “What?”
I kneeled beside it to whisper my sacred thoughts
“I am scared to go on”
“Too weak to surrender”
“Can you help me?”
That damn rock just stared at me
For six hours and 14 minutes until the sun went down
I walked out of the desert never to return
With a rock that forced me to listen to my own voice
Renewed - to find all that was lost

DAY ONE - Poetic Broadsides
Young Brother Authors,
Our time to write, think, reflect, and build together has come. You will post your first day's writings - poetic broadsides - under this heading.
My broadside focuses on the notion that many young black souls are tethered to a storm that refuses to release its grip.

Concreted streets
Signed by black bodies
Sounds of childhood
Replaced by death whispers
Broken and fragmented souls
In need of an autopsy
